Welcome to The Table We Built.

I’m Valerie, a therapist and writer exploring self-compassion, belonging, creativity, and what it means to be human. I created this space because I believe we are all carrying the same quiet questions: Who am I when I’m not achieving? What does it mean to grow without abandoning myself? How do I build a meaningful life in a world that tells me I need to become more before I can be enough? Why do I keep believing the next success, milestone, paycheck, relationship, or change in my body will finally make me happy?

For a long time, many of us have learned to treat worth like a transaction. We collect evidence that we deserve to feel good about ourselves: the accomplishment, the compliment, the milestone, the number on the scale, the paycheck, the approval. We keep waiting for the moment when we finally have enough proof that we are enough. But what if we stopped treating ourselves like unfinished projects and began to see ourselves as worthy of care as we are? Not because we stop growing or dreaming, but because growth feels different when it comes from compassion instead of criticism.

The Table We Built is a space for exploring the tension between acceptance and growth. It is a place for stories about grief and joy, discomfort and wonder, and change and belonging. It is also a place to question perfectionism, push back against hustle culture, and loosen the belief that we must constantly prove ourselves to be worthy. Here, we explore how to care for our bodies without turning them into projects, how to create lives that feel meaningful instead of impressive, how to make room for the full range of emotion, how to find purpose without losing ourselves, and how to embrace who we are today while still making space for who we are becoming. I believe the best conversations happen around a table, not because everyone agrees or has everything figured out, but because people bring their stories, their questions, and their lived experience. A table is not where we arrive perfect; it is where we arrive as we are.

So pull up a chair and bring the parts of yourself you feel proud of alongside the parts you are still learning to understand. Bring your questions, your hopes, your grief, your curiosity, and your unfinished stories. There is room for you here. Your seat was already deserved - not because of what you do, create, achieve, or become, but because the table has been waiting for you all along.
